Man Swings from Downtown Austin Crane and then Disappears into High-Rise; Probe ongoing

Many people were looking up on Sunday when they saw a man swinging from a construction crane in downtown Austin.

The man involved is still being sought by Austin police.

According to Austin police, officers went to a check welfare call in the 400 block of Guadalupe Street on Sunday, April 20, at approximately 9:59 a.m. According to the caller, someone was dangling from the top of the building’s crane.

On top of the structure, authorities discovered a guy who seemed to be repelling from the end of the crane.

Excessive caution led to the evacuation of the area.

Shortly later, the individual entered the high-rise building by climbing down flights of stairs inside the crane’s ladder.

The individual in question had not yet been named.

There have been no arrests. The probe is still going on.

Although the area surrounding the building was evacuated, an APD representative did not explain how the two individuals on the crane managed to escape.

From the crane, the man performed multiple broad swings. One of his hands seemed to hold a selfie stick. A second guy is atop the crane’s arm, observing the man on the wire swinging below.

In Austin, there have been other instances of crane climbing.
