The SUV driver who allegedly ran away after hitting and injuring two Utah Transit Authority employees in Murray has turned himself in.
At before 1:30 a.m., four UTA maintenance workers had just stepped off the tracks around 5900 South and 300 West when two of the guys went to lift their vehicle’s rail wheels. Soon after, a white SUV struck them both as they were crossing the street.
The SUV’s driver fled on foot after the incident, and the UTA staff members were taken to the hospital. The motorist brought himself up, according to the Murray City Police Department, and investigators were interviewing him late Thursday.
One of the injured workers is in critical condition and had surgery for potentially fatal injuries, while the other man is categorised as seriously ill.
“Our maintenance crew is literally that. They’re out there maintaining the rails, making the service better and safer and here this unfortunate situation where two of them were hit by a hit and run driver, so it’s tough. It’s a difficult day for everybody. Work family is a phrase that gets tossed around a lot, but it certainly applies here,” shared UTA spokesperson Gavin Gustafson.
