A man armed with a bat attacked a commuter on a subway platform in Queens after the victim declined to hand over $20, as reported by officials and the victim’s grandmother.
A 21-year-old from Connecticut, Matthew Trudeau, was in New York City for a concert and was at Queensboro Plaza waiting for an N train around 11:45 p.m. when an aggressive individual approached him and requested $20, according to police and sources.
Trudeau responded with a firm “No,” which led the assailant to retrieve a baseball bat from his backpack and strike the victim in the back of the head, as reported by law enforcement and sources.
“I don’t know exactly what happened,” his grandmother, Ann Vaillancourt, told The Post by phone. “I know he went to a concert, and then we get the call that he’s in the hospital. I guess he got hit in the head with a steel bat.
An individual, estimated to be approximately 18 years old, standing 5-foot-10, donned in an orange hoodie and carrying a gray backpack, reportedly escaped on a southbound N train, according to sources.
Images capture the individual being guided into an ambulance, sporting a bandage on his head. He was transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where his condition was reported as stable.
