Authorities have reported that a tragic incident occurred in South Carolina, where a man allegedly took the life of his mother following a heated argument. Disturbingly, it is believed that he then disposed of her body in a nearby river.
A man from Columbia, Terry Lee Self Jr., 37, is facing charges of murder, as stated in an arrest warrant.
“The body of the suspect’s mother was discovered in the Edisto River on December 3,” stated Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, revealing the unsettling find made by a canoer. “Detectives have confirmed that the suspect and his mother were present at the suspect’s residence and departed together following a disagreement.”
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the victim as Regina Arroyo as per WJCL News.
Koon stated that the evidence presented in the case strongly suggests that used a ligature to commit the act of strangling Arroyo.
“After he killed Ms. Arroyo, Self then dumped her body in the river and left,” Koon said
According to reports, detectives have dedicated seven months to investigating this case, focusing their efforts on identifying the individual accountable for Arroyo’s tragic demise.
“Our aim is to provide her family members and loved ones with a sense of closure,” Koon expressed.
According to reports by WJCL News, Self was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County, where he was detained for an unrelated offense.
The suspect was charged by Lexington County investigators on Monday and appeared before a magistrate who denied him bond.
