Man Molested Woman after He Strangled Her and Held Captive in Storage Unit

Honk News ( Cobb County, MA) – A man is currently in custody at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without the possibility of bond following accusations of physically and sexually assaulting a woman within a storage unit.

The incident occurred on December 30 at SecurCare Self Storage located on South Cobb Drive, taking place between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., as per the court documents that were acquired.

Steven Obermeyer was taken into custody on January 9 and faces charges including rape, aggravated assault by strangulation, false imprisonment, and battery. Authorities indicated that Obermeyer and the victim are acquainted, suggesting that the incident was not a chance occurrence.

A customer expressed their distress to Newell over the occurrence of such a shocking crime, particularly in a location so visible to the public. He expressed his disappointment that the staff failed to inform him about the crime that took place on the property.

According to jail records, Obermeyer was under probation at the time he reportedly assaulted and raped the victim in a storage unit.

“That shouldn’t be happening period. no one should be violated. I’ll be up out of here by the end of the month. I’m unhappy, I’m unhappy about that situation. I don’t even know what’s going on in here” said customer Kerizmeh El.

Legal filings reveal that Obermeyer obstructed the victim’s attempt to open the roll door of a unit by applying pressure to her neck. The individual faces allegations of committing physical, verbal, and sexual assault against the victim while she was confined within the unit.

“That’s a problem. That’s a problem right there. We shouldn’t have that. We are not going to have that,” said El.

The ownership of the storage unit by the victim remains uncertain. Obermeyer appears as homeless in the jail documentation.

“We gotta put our foot down on any type of crime that’s happening like that,” said El.

El expressed that, as a customer, he anticipates being notified by management about any criminal activities occurring on the premises.

“I wouldn’t want that to happen to nobody, whoever is in here doing that. It’s mighty strange that there’s no notes up. Nobody said anything, if you ask me the place needs to be shut down,” said El.
