Man Killed a Woman and Chopped Her to Spread Body Parts to Evade Detection in Long Island; Arrested by Police

A man from Long Island has been charged with the gruesome act of dismembering a woman’s body and disposing of the remains in multiple locations in Patchogue.

Authorities have revealed that a 72-year-old man from Patchogue, Gary Cowell, has been indicted for disturbing crimes. He is accused of unlawfully concealing a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence. The victim in question is a 56-year-old woman from Patchogue.

“The defendant is facing charges connected to the alleged dismemberment of a deceased individual,” stated District Attorney Tierney. “I applaud the quick action of the Suffolk County Police detectives in finding the victim’s remains.” The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing. Based on the investigation, authorities were notified on June 18, 2024, about a woman who had gone missing and hadn’t been seen since June 13, 2024.

Investigators questioned Cowell, who was reportedly the final individual to have contact with the woman before her death.

After the interview, Cowell accompanied detectives who discovered the dismembered remains.

Investigators reportedly found an axe and other pieces of evidence at Cowell’s residence in Patchogue.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the medical examiner has not yet determined the cause of death as reported by FOX News.

Cowell’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 25, 2024, and he is currently in custody with a $1 million cash bond.
