Misael Topete Topete, age 29, formerly of Hawarden, Iowa, was found guilty on Thursday, July 25, of third-degree sexual abuse of a female by force, as stated by the Sioux County Attorney’s Office. The conviction was handed down on Thursday.

An inquiry, according to the authorities, revealed that Topete had sexually attacked the woman, and he later confessed to the police that the woman had told him to stop that behavior.

“One day before the original trial on March 5, 2018, Topete fled to Mexico becoming a fugitive from justice. On Feb 18, 2024, Topete turned himself in to authorities.” said the Sioux County Attorney’s Office.

Topete will continue to be held in custody at the Sioux County Jail until a sentencing hearing can be scheduled, according to the authorities. This is because sexual abuse in the third degree is considered a felony that is committed through the use of unlawful force.
