Man Choked Woman to Death in Colorado; Arrested after Victim’s Friend Called Police for a Welfare Check

A man has been arrested in Colorado for the alleged murder of a woman he met on Snapchat. Authorities claim that he strangled her with a chokehold.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a 911 call at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 1. The caller, a concerned individual, requested a welfare check on a woman who appeared unresponsive at a residence located in the 13000 block of Halleluiah Trail.

Medical personnel arrived and confirmed the woman’s passing. Following a series of interviews, authorities apprehended 26-year-old Jorge Meza-Alarcon Jr. on charges of first-degree murder.

According to an arrest affidavit, deputies discovered the victim, 18-year-old Annabelle Floren-Wyant, inside the residence with blood near her ear and on her pants and underwear at her ankles. The details were obtained by the Colorado Springs Gazette.

According to a friend, Floren-Wyant was dropped off at the home around 1 a.m. to “collect money” from Meza-Alarcon, as reported to the police. Floren-Wyant had sensed something off about Meza-Alarcon and asked them to keep in contact through text messages, according to the affidavit.

After approximately 90 minutes, the friend became concerned when he no longer received any communication from her, prompting him to contact the authorities.

Meza-Alarcon was discovered by police approximately three miles away from the residence, with noticeable facial injuries. During an interview, he allegedly informed detectives that he had connected with Floren-Wyant through Snapchat and had intended to compensate her for certain services.

According to the affidavit, he initially stated that he would obtain the funds to settle his debt with her. However, he alleged that she struck him with an object, potentially a phone, causing him to lose consciousness. After regaining consciousness, he found himself three miles away and immediately dialed 911 to report the incident.

However, as the interview progressed, there were claims that he altered his account. According to reports, he claimed that Floren-Wyant had previously threatened him and was suspicious of a car idling outside the house and her frequent texting.

Feeling threatened, he quickly reacted by employing a leglock and smoothly transitioning into a ‘D’arce’ chokehold, as described in the affidavit. Meza-Alarcon then dismounted and stepped outside.

Meza-Alarcon was apprehended by deputies and transported to the El Paso County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $1 million bond.

His court hearing is set for Thursday.

According to a report by local NBC affiliate KOAA, he was arrested in February for a disturbing incident involving a dog. It is alleged that he choked the dog to death and disposed of its body in a dumpster.
