Honk News (Chicago, IL) – A man who evaded electronic monitoring while awaiting trial for predatory criminal sexual assault has been apprehended.
Jorge Mondragon-Bahena, 48, entered the Sheriff’s Electronic Monitoring Program in October 2022 following charges related to the sexual assault of a minor under 13 years old.
In March 2023, Mondragon-Bahena took off his GPS tracking device and escaped from his designated residence located in the 3500 block of North Southport Avenue in Chicago.
Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Electronic Monitoring unit made multiple efforts to find him, but they were unable to succeed.
Mondragon-Bahena was later labeled a fugitive, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant against him for charges related to escape and the associated criminal sexual assault.
In January, it was discovered that Mondragon-Bahena had been operating under various aliases and was residing in Chicago, employed as a cook at an undisclosed restaurant.
Recently, authorities from the Fugitive Task Force uncovered new details that directed them to a home on South Talman Avenue, where Mondragon-Bahena was located and apprehended peacefully.
On March 7, felony escape charges received approval from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Mondragon-Bahena faced the court on March 8 for his first hearing and was remanded to the Cook County Jail as he awaits the next steps in the legal process.
