Man Arrested during Traffic Stop after Officer Discovered 20 Molestation Charges against Him in Portland

Honk News (Portland, OR) – An Oregon man, aged 48, was taken into custody and placed in the Multnomah County Jail on January 21 due to an outstanding warrant related to 20 counts of child sex abuse reportedly occurring in 2022.

A spokesperson for the Portland Police Bureau, Mike Benner, informed KOIN 6 News that Brandon Michael Reder was apprehended during a traffic stop after officers discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Multnomah County. He faces 10 counts of encouraging child sex abuse in the first degree and 10 counts in the second degree.

A member of the PPB Central Bike Squad approached Reder around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Everett Street and 6th Avenue in Northwest Portland to inform him that riding a bike on the sidewalk is against the law in the city. While conducting the stop, officers discovered his active warrants.

“We simply stopped him to speak to him and tell him riding on the sidewalk is a violation of city ordinance,” Benner said. “Only then did we learn who he was and learn he had a felony warrant and that is why he was arrested.”

A warrant has been issued following allegations that Reder did not adhere to the terms of his pretrial release, according to an affidavit submitted on October 11, 2024.

“The defendant was released by the Courts on August 22, 2022,” the affidavit reads. “The defendant was instructed by the courts to obey all laws and to follow the courts and Close Street Supervision conditions. One of Close Street Supervision conditions is [a] weekly check-in via phone. The defendant has failed to do so since July 24, 2024. Multiple attempts have been made to contact the defendant, but all have been unsuccessful.”
