Man Arrested after Officers Found Dead Body during Welfare Check in Maine; Suspect Charged

Gardiner, ME- A man from South Gardiner has been charged with murder after a corpse was discovered by a law enforcement officer when they were conducting a welfare check.

The Gardiner Police Department was dispatched to a residence on Bartlett Street in South Gardiner on Friday at approximately 3:41 p.m. to conduct a welfare check request that was made by a member of the family.

Officers found the body of a male who had passed away outside the property after they arrived at the area. Maine State Police arrived on the scene and immediately began their investigation into the death.

An autopsy was performed on the body on Saturday, and the results indicated that blunt force trauma was the cause of death, and that homicide was the manner in which the individual passed away.

In order to ensure that the deceased person can be positively identified, the identity of the deceased person is being concealed until additional testing can be done.

In connection with this investigation, the Major Crimes Central Detectives of the Maine State Police have taken into custody Gregory Fisher, who is 52 years old and hails from South Gardiner. He is being charged with murder.

Fisher was released from custody and transported to the Kennebec County Jail, where he is expected to make his initial court appearance on Monday.

The Maine State Police have stated that the investigation is still underway and that additional information will be made public as soon as it is available.
