A couple from Leesville faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of a 4-year-old girl.
Investigators from the Leesville Police Department (LPD) have found that both the 4-year-old girl and her 2-year-old brother sustained injuries that are thought to be due to physical abuse.
A 24-year-old man, Logan Miller, and his 48-year-old girlfriend, Terrie Gray, both from Leesville, were taken into custody on drug-related charges on November 6.
Both individuals are facing charges of first-degree murder along with two counts of cruelty to a minor.
On Wednesday, Nov. 6 at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers from the Leesville Police Department (LPD) arrived at a local residence following a report of an unresponsive child.
A child was taken to a nearby hospital for medical care, but authorities report she passed away from her injuries on Thursday morning.
According to Whitney LaFrance, Public Information Officer with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the 4-year-old died from “cardiopulmonary arrest, intracranial bilateral hemorrhaging and non-accidental injuries from child abuse.”
A report from DCFS indicated that the child was admitted to the hospital with a bilateral brain bleed, a broken humerus, and a fracture of the left clavicle. Moreover, she exhibits extensive bruising across her body along with burns on her face, chin, and neck.
“It’s a very disturbing case and certainly horrible case of abuse to this child and quite possibly her younger sibling,” Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft said.
The LPD is actively collaborating with the sheriff’s office, coroner’s office, and district attorney in Vernon Parish, along with DCFS, to investigate this case.
