KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. – Authorities are urgently searching for 29-year-old Jake Wenzel, who is accused of firing a gun into a home in Trevor late Sunday night and remains on the run. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office has warned residents that Wenzel is armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
Shots Fired Incident in Trevor
Deputies were called to a residence in Trevor shortly before midnight on Sunday, Nov. 16, after a woman reported that Wenzel had fired a round into her home following an altercation earlier in the evening.
According to investigators, the victim had parked in her driveway and rushed into the house moments before Wenzel arrived in his pickup truck, armed with a handgun. Witnesses said he pointed the weapon at the vehicle, shouting for the victim to come outside.
The victim’s sister, who owns the home, confronted Wenzel and ordered him to leave. Instead, he turned toward the residence and fired a single round into the structure before fleeing the scene.
No injuries were reported, but deputies described the incident as an extremely dangerous act of violence.
By 6 a.m. Monday, Wenzel’s abandoned truck was located in the Center Lake Woods subdivision, roughly a few miles from the shooting scene. Law enforcement agencies launched an intensive manhunt in the surrounding area.
Suspect’s Criminal History
Authorities say Wenzel has an extensive criminal record, including multiple felony convictions for:
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Possession with intent to distribute amphetamines
- Party to a crime – felony attempted theft
He is also currently out on a $7,500 bond for felony terrorist threats and has active felony warrants for his arrest.
