Early Life
Julianne Alexandra Hough was born on July 20, 1988, in Orem, Utah. Marianne and Bruce Hough raised her as the youngest of five children. Her four grandparents were also dancers. Hough began her professional training at the Orem-based Center Stage Performing Arts Studio. She began competitive dancing at the age of nine.
Following their parents’ divorce at the age of ten, Hough and her brother, Derek (who is also a professional dancer and regularly performs alongside her), studied dance in London. They lived and trained at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts with their tutors Corky and Shirley Ballas. Hough debuted as a Million Dollar Dancer on ABC’s “Show Me the Money” in 2006 before becoming a professional dancer on the smash show “Dancing with the Stars.” She won the fourth season with Olympic gold champion Apolo Ohno and the fifth season with Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves. Hough was nominated for an Emmy in July 2008 for her Mambo choreography. She returned to the competition for season six, dancing with radio broadcaster Adam Carolla, however they were eliminated in week four. Julianne and Derek announced a summer tour of over 40 locations across the United States and Canada in March 2014, dubbed “Move Live on Tour.” The tour, which began in Park City, Kansas in May 2014 and finished in Los Angeles on July 26, 2014, was completely sold out. Sales were so successful that new locations and dates were added along the way.

In December 2013, she began dating NHL player Brooks Laich. They announced their engagement in August 2015, and on July 8, 2017, they married. In May 2020, the couple announced their divorce in a joint statement.

She spent $649,000 for an apartment in a fancy complex in Nashville in 2009. Taylor Swift owns the building’s double penthouse. Julianne sold the condo for $900,000 in 2013.
