Julianne Alexandra Hough was born on July 20, 1988, in Orem, Utah. Marianne and Bruce Hough raised her as the youngest of five children. Her four grandparents were also dancers. Hough began her professional training at the Orem-based Center Stage Performing Arts Studio. She began competitive dancing at the age of nine.
Following their parents’ divorce at the age of ten, Hough and her brother, Derek (who is also a professional dancer and regularly performs alongside her), studied dance in London.
