Investigation Launched After Deputy Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot in Alabama

Fultondale, AL: An Alabama law enforcement officer committed suicide on Thursday while participating in a training session in Fultondale, as reported by authorities.

Fultondale law enforcement Sgt. John Tanks stated that the training on sex offender investigations was being held at the Fultondale Event Center on Hawkins Lane.

During the lunch break, the cop, who was not from Jefferson County, dined with three other individuals. Upon their return to the event center at 1 p.m., three officers exited the car and reentered the premises. While they were in the process, they heard a gunshot.

The cop was discovered deceased in the rear seat of the vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as stated by authorities. The man was a 43-year-old Elmore County sheriff’s officer.
