Honk News (Phoenix, AZ) – A man from Florida admitted guilt this week regarding his involvement in the tragic shooting death of an 18-month-old girl. At the same time, accusations of ongoing concealment persist.
On Wednesday, C.J. Nelson, Jr., 21, acknowledged his legal responsibility for one count of manslaughter involving a firearm, as per court records from Flagler County.
A desperate 911 call was placed during the Labor Day weekend of 2023. A report indicated that a young child had tragically suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. A shooting incident occurred shortly before midnight at a rental property located on Ranwood Lane in Palm Coast, a city of moderate size within the Daytona Beach metropolitan region.
A child was subsequently declared deceased at a local hospital.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, a total of eight adults were present during the shocking incident of violence.
Nelson’s plea agreement creates a paradox of uncertainty and resolution; the initial page of the document shows the defendant admitting guilt to the offense, while the following page reveals a no-contest plea. A date for the sentencing hearing has not been established yet.
Furthermore, Nelson’s acknowledgment is presented as a straightforward appeal — indicating that there was no arrangement made between the prosecution and the defense regarding any leniency in sentencing or other considerations. The final outcome will rest entirely with the presiding judge in the case.
The situation also involves the co-defendant in the matter.
C.J. Nelson, Sr., 46, the father of Nelson, has been charged with two counts of tampering with evidence and providing false information to law enforcement as of January 2024.

The sheriff has previously pointed out that the father of the defendant is believed to be the key figure behind the efforts to conceal the events following the death.
The sheriff alleged that the shooter’s father directed witnesses to create an alibi for both himself and his son, telling them to claim they were outside smoking at the time of the incident. Staly reported that Nelson Sr. ultimately directed his son to “take a shower” at another location while other relatives were at the hospital where the child passed away.
