Indiana Man and Former Cop Arrested after He Molested Woman and Later Attacked Her with Knife and Spatula

A man from Fishers, who previously served as a Reserve Police Officer, faces charges following allegations of raping a woman he attended rehabilitation with.

On September 27, officers from the Fishers Police Department responded to a call regarding a domestic disturbance in the 13600 block of Kingston Drive.

When Sparks arrived at the Airbnb, he opened the door, and officers observed his slurred speech and red eyes. Officers noted this as an indication of being under the influence. Officers tried to communicate with Sparks, but he allegedly resisted, resulting in his first arrest and transfer to the Hamilton County Jail.

Marcus Gregory Sparks Jr., 33, was charged with the following:

  • Three counts of Rape, a Level 1 Felony
  • Criminal Confinement, a Level 3 Felony
  • Two counts of Domestic Battery, a Level 5 Felony
  • Intimidation, a Level 5 Felony
  • Strangulation, a Level 6 Felony
  • Domestic Battery, a Level 6 Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor

Sparks underwent a breath test at the jail. His results showed a “0.311 BAC.” Anything exceeding 0.08 is deemed over the legal limit. He was taken to a local hospital because of the serious nature of his results.

The victim recounted the incident to the officers, stating that he assaulted her with a spatula and, “he literally choked me until I passed out.” The victim identified significant bruising. The victim reported that Sparks forced a knife into her. The victim reported that Sparks threatened her by saying she was going to die and claimed, “I own you.”

Court documents reveal that the victim recounted an incident where Sparks threatened her with a knife at her throat. While he didn’t harm her physically, he reportedly took her car keys, stopping her from escaping.

When police were able to finally speak with Sparks he reportedly confessed and said, “I didn’t hurt her on purpose.” He continued saying, “She grabbed the knife and told me to shove it down her throat, and you know what, I did!”

After looking into the matter more closely, the victim revealed that she encountered Sparks while in a rehabilitation program for addiction, which eventually led to a romantic relationship.

Clermont Police reported that Sparks served as a reserve officer for the Clermont Police Department around five years back. Sparks was a public safety officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department from April 2014 to May 2016.
