Illinois Teacher Faces Court for Allegedly Injuring 3-Year-Old in Classroom Incident; Accused of Throwing Kid on Ground

An Illinois pre-kindergarten teacher is under scrutiny as authorities claim she caused harm to a 3-year-old by letting her fall to the ground.

Lisa Jacobs, 44, faces a charge of aggravated battery related to the reported incident, as stated in the charging documents submitted to Madison County Third Judicial Court on Dec. 6, which were examined by PEOPLE.

According to the documents, prosecutors claim that Jacobs lifted the child, whose identity is protected due to her age, and let her fall to the ground from a height of five feet.

As reported by a local news source, Jacobs served as a pre-school teacher at St. Ambrose Catholic School in Godfrey, Ill.

Fr. Steven Janoski, the church’s pastor, mentioned that Jacobs was first put on administrative leave on December 3 as school officials began an investigation, and she resigned from her position the next day, according to the report. The inquiry was subsequently passed on to the Department of Children and Family Services as well as the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, according to Janoski.

In a request for further pre-trial release conditions, officials claim Jacobs had earlier “threatened or committed physical abuse” against the child. Prosecutors did not provide any additional information.

According to the documents, Jacobs has now been released from custody. She is prohibited from any communication with the alleged victim, from caring for children other than her own, and from having possession of a firearm.

Documents reveal that Jacobs is set to attend a preliminary hearing in court on December 13.
