Illinois Man Assaulted Toddler for Throwing His Phone; Victim in Critical Condition after Vicious Attack by Mother’s Boyfriend

Honk News (Will County, IL) – A man from Illinois is in custody following allegations that he caused a skull fracture in a toddler after she accidentally threw his cellphone.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office shared an update on their Facebook page regarding the apprehension of 21-year-old Jordan Padilla, following a response by first responders to a residence in Plainfield on March 15.

A 2-year-old girl was reported to be “unconscious but breathing” at home with her mother and her mother’s boyfriend, Padilla. Paramedics who assessed the girl observed “suspicious injuries” on her face and abdomen, prompting an immediate transport to the hospital for necessary treatment. Authorities reported that her situation was significantly more severe than it seemed.

The young girl received treatment at the hospital but was later classified as being in critical condition and subsequently moved to another facility in Chicago. Medical professionals informed law enforcement that she exhibited a “blown left pupil,” a “left-sided gaze preference,” and bruising around her left eye.

There were also concerns regarding potential internal injuries she might have sustained. Authorities later discovered that she had sustained a fractured skull and was experiencing a brain bleed.

During the questioning by detectives, Padilla reportedly made statements that could be seen as self-incriminating, alongside his unnamed girlfriend. According to police, his initial statements did not align with the injuries observed on the girl. In a shocking turn of events, he was requested to show how he supposedly assaulted the young girl, leading detectives to determine that Padilla struck her in the face with his elbow.

In comments provided to the local news source Herald-News, Will County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Dan Jungles explained that Padilla reportedly assaulted the girl due to his anger over her throwing his cell phone at him. The mother of the girl was said to be absent from the room during the supposed incident, and Padilla did not inform her about what happened.

Padilla faces multiple charges, including battery, domestic battery, aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated battery of a child following his arrest.

He remains in custody at the Will County Adult Detention Facility as he awaits his upcoming court date.
