A 20-year-old individual who entered the country without proper documentation is facing charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Fort Walton Beach.
A man named Kevin Mauricio Escobar-Munoz from Honduras was apprehended on Wednesday for alleged sexual battery and burglary. Additionally, there is an immigration hold in place.
The reported incident occurred on the morning of April 21, shortly before 7 a.m.
As per the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the victim reported waking up in her home to find an unfamiliar Hispanic male engaging in a sexual assault. According to her account, he placed his hand over her mouth and spoke in Spanish. According to her account, after he completed his task, he embraced her and potentially made his exit through the rear exit.
Deputies reported that a medical examination of the victim revealed evidence of sexual abuse.
Last Thursday, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement revealed that the male DNA profile, which was a match to the contributing male sample from the victim’s sexual assault kit, belonged to Escobar Munoz.
The sheriff’s office revealed that Escobar Munoz was residing within close proximity to the victim’s home, according to their investigation.
In September of 2022, Escobar Munoz was deported, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security.

“I’m exhausted,” expressed Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden, speaking from the perspective of a sheriff or local law enforcement.
According to Aden, Munoz was initially flagged by Border Patrol to prevent him from reentering the country. However, Munoz managed to return despite this. Aden mentions that a comparable incident occurred in February.

Aden has a positive view on the motivations of individuals seeking to enter the United States.
According to him, these two cases are casting a negative spotlight on those individuals.
“There is a process, and we have the privilege of working with some exceptional individuals,” Aden stated. “We have a clear path to citizenship, which has resulted in a highly skilled workforce.” We are fortunate to have exceptional business owners as a result. There’s a procedure and I acknowledge that it can be challenging, but numerous individuals follow it correctly. However, the practice of individuals entering our borders and receiving privileges that even local citizens do not have must come to an end.
