Homeless Woman Snatched Toddler from Park in New York City; Nanny Screamed and Thwarted Kidnapping Attempt

A homeless woman with a history of criminal activity reportedly attempted to take two young children from a playground in Manhattan during the day. However, her plan was foiled by a courageous nanny, who acted like a superhero, according to police and prosecutors.

According to a criminal complaint, the incident started when a suspect named Jessie Pennill, who has a history of six assaults dating back to 2011, began paying attention to two young boys, aged 2 and 1, in Madison Square Park at noon on Wednesday.

“I owe my nanny a lot,” expressed the father of the second child involved in the incident. The nanny bravely confronted the individual who attempted to snatch the 2-year-old and escape from the park.”

“They don’t get enough credit but she would do anything to protect my child,” said the father, who prefers to remain anonymous.

A 34-year-old individual allegedly took hold of a 1-year-old child while they were playing, and then declined to return the child to their caregiver. The caregiver had to physically separate the toddler from the individual’s grasp, according to the complaint.

According to the court filing, the individual in question swiftly took hold of the second child and proceeded towards the park’s exit.

The nanny successfully prevented the attempted abduction by loudly demanding that Pennill release the child, according to the complaint and the girl’s father.

Vanessa Edwards, a nanny at Madison Square Park, praised her fellow caretaker for her quick thinking and described her as a superhero.

In the meantime, the father of the 2-year-old advised parents to be cautious of individuals within parks in the Big Apple.

Pennill faced charges of attempted kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child when arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on Thursday.

Prosecutors have reported that the individual charged with attempted kidnapping has admitted to the abduction.

The father of the older child was taken aback upon learning about Pennill’s numerous arrests.
