Police have reported that a homeless man passed away after being potentially stabbed and mauled by a pack of canines at a park in San Bernardino.
The San Bernardino Police Department reported that paramedics and officers were dispatched to Perris Hill Park at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Sunday.
The victim was discovered to have sustained injuries from a dog bite and suspected puncture wounds upon arrival. He was transported to a hospital, where he was declared deceased.
“While the victim was being treated by medical personnel, he had what is suspected to be a potential stab wound, but again we’re not 100% sure about that,” San Bernardino police Capt. Nelson Carrington said. “We won’t get that information until the coroner’s investigation is completed.”
San Bernardino Animal Control impounded a total of 11 canines at the location. In order to acquire additional information, investigators are endeavoring to locate the proprietor, who is also suspected to be homeless.
The cause of mortality of the victim will be determined through an autopsy.
The police are currently in the process of identifying any individuals who may have witnessed the incident. A person of interest has not yet been identified at this time.
“There are several homeless encampments that are at Perris Hill Park, so there’s lots of individuals that we’re attempting to reach out to, to try to find as many witnesses to the incident as possible,” Carrington said.
