Homeless Man Fatally Abused Infant in South Dakota; Authorities Issue Arrest Warrant for Wanted Killer

The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) has issued a felony arrest warrant for a man who is wanted for 2nd-degree murder and child abuse.

According to court documents, charges were filed this week for the alleged crimes that occurred on Nov. 13, 2022. The victim’s birthdate is September 26, 2022.

Authorities are currently on the lookout for Shamar “Tay” Bennett, aged 26. Bennett is currently located in or around Pennington County and is experiencing homelessness.

Another individual has been implicated in the same incident.

A woman named Courtney Ann Martinez Martin, aged 27, from Rapid City, was taken into custody this week on charges of 2nd-degree murder and cruelty to a minor. According to court documents, Martinez Martin is currently being held on a bond of $100,000, which must be paid in cash.

It remains unclear whether there is any connection between the victim and the suspects.

It is advised that the public avoid approaching Bennett.
