Hawaii Man Sentenced as He Molested Teen Girls Recorded Abuse; Used Social Media for Contacting and Grooming Teen Victims

Honk News (HONOLULU, HI) – Acting U.S. Attorney Kenneth M. Sorensen has announced that Jonathan Farr, a 31-year-old from Honolulu, has been sentenced in federal court to 151 months in prison, amounting to more than 12 years. He will also face 30 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to receiving child pornography in February 2024.

Farr received his sentence on February 18. He is required to pay $3,000 in restitution to two minor victims and must register as a sex offender upon his release.

He acknowledged that from June 2019 to May 2020, he used the internet to communicate with two female minors, participating in sexually explicit discussions with each of them. Farr requested and obtained images and videos of minors engaging in sexual acts and participated in other explicit content.

During the sentencing, the government stated that Farr had groomed the minors over a period, soliciting explicit media from them and distributing that media to others, including additional minors.

Farr discussed purchasing flights for minors to travel to Hawaiʻi from the mainland to meet him, and the other way around. Farr’s actions involved more victims than just the two minors mentioned in the current federal charges, as stated in the information given to the court.

He confessed to authorities and informed other young victims that he had physical sexual contact with at least three female minors, along with one additional minor, all situated in Hawaiʻi.

This case was presented in court as part of an initiative started in 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at addressing the increasing issue of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
