The individual wanted in connection with the shooting of two Mifflin Township police officers has been apprehended following days of searching and a $40,000 reward, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
According to our news partner WBNS 10TV in Columbus, a woman is also in arrest after being accused of hiding the male.
WBNS reports that Franklin County SWAT and the US Marshals traced Dixon to an apartment near Obetz.
As authorities came, Jayla Call, 31, approached them and was arrested, according to WBNS.
Daveonte Dixon fired rounds at officers before shooting himself in the moments leading up to his arrest, and he is currently in critical condition at the hospital, according to WBNS.
Dixon was wanted for attempted murder and felonious assault, and he offered a $40,000 cash reward for information leading to his arrest.
According to WBNS, Call faces charges of obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin, two Mifflin Township police officers conducted a traffic stop near Mecca Road and Perdue Avenue around 6:45 p.m. on May 28.
The passenger, later identified as Dixon, exited the vehicle and began running.
“When officers pursued the suspect, he turned around and opened fire, hitting both officers,” according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
As originally reported by NewsCenter 7, Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin described the shooting as “unprovoked.”
Dixon was hauled into custody on Friday.
The sheriff’s office stated that the car’s driver has cooperated with investigations and is not currently facing any charges.
Dixon is charged with attempted murder and felonious assault in connection with the incident.
