A man from Winnebago was found guilty of strangulation and will spend two and a half years in jail.
Seth Lopez, 21, was found guilty of strangling a romantic partner and given a term in federal court on Friday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Nebraska. He will go to jail for 30 months and then be released after three years of being watched.
As per the U.S. Department of Justice, the girl told the Winnebago Police Department on December 7, 2022, that Lopez had abused her at his home earlier that same night. She came with someone to see.
A release says that the witness was helping the woman get her things together to leave when Lopez attacked her. He is then said to have thrown the girl onto the bed and put his hands around her neck, putting pressure on her. While the witness was telling him to stop, Lopez is said to have pushed the woman into a closet and asked, “Where do you think you’re going?” when she tried to leave.
Lopez then put his arm around her neck and pulled her back to the bed. It was Lopez who put his other hand over her mouth when she tried to scream, stopping her from doing both. Lopez’s father saw what was going on, though, and told Lopez to let the victim go.
The witness also said Lopez took out a knife and held it up to the victim when she wasn’t looking. He didn’t use it, though.
The person who was attacked had cuts and bruises on her neck afterward.
