A funeral home owner in Georgia was taken into custody on Sunday, Oct. 27, after officials reportedly discovered 18 human remains in different states of decay while executing an eviction notice at the location.
Officials have reported that Chris Johnson, 39, is confronting seventeen charges related to the abuse of a deceased body, as stated in a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities found the bodies following the execution of an eviction notice at Johnson Funeral Home in Douglas on Saturday, Oct. 26.
“This investigation is active and ongoing,” the GBI said in the press release. “Additional charges are expected.”
A representative from the funeral home was unavailable for comment.
The status of Johnson’s legal representation and plea remains uncertain.
