PHOENIX, Ariz. – The final suspect linked to the October shooting death of 16-year-old Trey Bomelyn has been taken into custody, marking the end of a month-long investigation into the deadly armed robbery that stunned the South Phoenix community.
Final Suspect Arrested
Police confirmed the arrest of 20-year-old Charles Stokes Jr. on Thursday. He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery. His arrest follows weeks of coordinated efforts by detectives to locate and apprehend all individuals involved in the crime.
Authorities said three other suspects—Anthony Coleman, Syncere Jack, and Jacari West—had already been arrested earlier this month and are being charged as adults, despite being under 18 years old.
Deadly Shooting After Armed Robbery
The incident occurred on October 2 near 37th Street and Roeser Road, when the suspects reportedly attempted to rob a group of teens who were playing a popular high school water-gun game known as “Assassins.”
According to court documents, the robbery escalated when the suspects fled the scene and Coleman opened fire on the victims. Bomelyn was struck by gunfire and later died while being rushed to the hospital. Two other victims were also injured—one found at the scene and another dropped off at a nearby hospital. Both are expected to survive.
Community Reaction and Ongoing Proceedings
The death of Bomelyn has left the community reeling, as friends described him as an outgoing student who loved sports and was weeks away from celebrating his 17th birthday.
The four suspects now face serious felony charges, including first-degree murder and armed robbery, with prosecutors moving forward in adult court due to the severity of the crime.
The Phoenix Police Department said the investigation is now focused on preparing the case for trial and ensuring justice for the victims’ families.
