Four Teens Surrender after Assaulting Retired NYPD Officer on Upper East Side

Four teens accused of assaulting a 65-year-old retired police officer on the Upper East Side surrendered on Friday evening, according to authorities.

The victim was attempting to assist a cab driver who was being harassed by the youths, according to police sources.

On Tuesday, detectives said that five suspects engaged in a brawl with the 65-year-old victim near East 84th Street and Park Avenue.

According to authorities, the five suspects approached the victim, and one of them smacked the retired cop in the face with a backpack.

The victim fell on the ground and suffered minor injuries to his face and knee. Police say he denied medical attention. The accused eventually fled the scene on foot.

On Friday, four teenagers turned themselves up to police.

According to arrest records, three 14-year-olds have been charged with second-degree gang assault and assault.

A 13-year-old is charged with one second-degree gang assault and two second-degree assaults. According to authorities, the 13-year-old punched the victim in the face and hit him with a backpack.
