Florida Substitute Teacher Charged After Allegedly Encouraging Classroom Assault

Honk News (Jacksonville, FL) – A Florida substitute teacher has been dismissed and taken into custody following allegations that she attempted to motivate a group of students to assault one of their classmates.

A report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office outlined the events of February 12 that resulted in Geaneane White, 57, being terminated from her position at the YMCA Tiger Academy in Jacksonville. Police documents reveal that on that day, White instructed her students to form small groups, but one boy “refused.”

As her “frustration grew,” she asked the rest of the children in the class, “Who in here can beat him up?” The arrest report stated, “Four kids raised their hands,” then proceeded one by one to assault the boy, allegedly at White’s urging.

According to police documents, after the children finished attacking the singled-out child, White reportedly approached the boy and pushed him, resulting in him hitting the desk he was sitting at. The boy told police that White “grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and dragged him,” and during that time, he “could not breathe,” according to the arrest report. She forcefully pulled the boy down into his seat at his desk, resulting in him hitting the back of his head on a nearby desk, according to police reports.

White reportedly requested help from two other school staff members, stating that the child “needed behavior intervention.” She failed to tell them about her supposed instruction to the other children to attack the child.

However, when those employees talked to other children in White’s classroom, they allegedly shared details about the beatings that White supposedly “actively encouraged.” At that moment, White was let go right away and shown out.

According to the report from the police, the child sustained a “small laceration” and had bruises near his ear.

YMCA Tiger Academy has confirmed to WTLV-WJXX, a local NBC and ABC affiliate, that the incident occurred and that White’s employment was ended following an internal investigation. The school stated that White underwent appropriate vetting by both the First Coast YMCA and Duval County Public Schools.

On March 1, White was taken into custody and faced charges of felony child abuse along with four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child. She got out on March 6 after paying bail. Her upcoming court date is set for March 25.
