A teacher assistant at a daycare in South Florida has been taken into custody following surveillance footage that revealed her striking and restraining a 6-year-old boy multiple times, as reported by authorities.
Officers arrived at Interamerican Learning Center in Northwest Miami-Dade on Monday following a report that 52-year-old Marlene Carballo had hit a child.
Investigators have reportedly examined surveillance footage that appears to show Carballo repeatedly making the child sit in a chair, flicking his ear, and striking him several times with both hands. The video allegedly shows her making the victim strike himself while she holds him down with her legs.
According to the report, witnesses, including the child’s therapist, gave statements that confirmed the abuse, leading the school director to end Carballo’s employment after the incident.
Carballo has been taken into custody and moved to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
