NAMPA, Idaho — A devastating two-vehicle collision on Interstate 84 Tuesday afternoon left one juvenile dead and several others injured, according to the Idaho State Police (ISP).
Details of the Tragic Collision
The crash occurred around 3:06 p.m. on westbound I-84 near Robinson Road, when a black 2007 GMC Sierra carrying juvenile passengers collided with the rear of a white 2013 Ford F-450 box truck.
ISP officials said the Ford truck, driven by a 21-year-old man from Nampa, was struck from behind by the GMC, which was driven by a 31-year-old man from Meridian. Both the driver and passenger of the Ford truck were uninjured.
The three occupants inside the GMC were rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, one juvenile passenger succumbed to injuries at the scene. The names of those involved have not yet been released pending family notification.
Emergency Response and Road Closures
Emergency personnel from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Nampa Fire Department, Canyon County Paramedics, and the Idaho Transportation Department responded to the crash.
The impact caused significant delays, with all westbound lanes blocked for approximately three hours while crews investigated and cleared the wreckage. Traffic was eventually reopened late in the afternoon.
Investigation Continues
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash. ISP confirmed that an in-depth investigation is underway to determine whether speed, distraction, or other factors contributed to the deadly collision.
Officials are urging drivers to remain alert and maintain safe following distances, especially as holiday travel increases across Idaho highways.
“This is a tragic reminder of how quickly things can change on the road,” one ISP spokesperson said. “Our hearts go out to the families affected by this loss.”
The Idaho State Police continues to investigate the crash and will release additional details as they become available.
