Honk News (St. Louis, MO) – A family in Missouri is grieving the tragic death of a grandmother who was attacked by a neighbor’s three dogs in her own backyard earlier this month.
On January 15, an incident occurred involving Gladys Anthony, 62, outside her residence in St. Louis, Missouri, according to a statement from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police released last week.
According to her family, Anthony had taken her dog for a walk after coming home from work. According to a GoFundMe established in her honor, Anthony, who was deaf, was unaware that the dogs had come near her.
“Because my aunt was deaf, she never heard the dogs approach,” the organizer wrote. “She had no warning, no chance to protect herself.”
According to police, Anthony’s husband was injured while attempting to save her. (The police statement did not recognize him as her husband, yet First Alert 4 confirmed this identification, referencing authorities).
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 73-year-old man attempting to ward off the dogs with a broom, allegedly after he had discharged his firearm at them, according to a statement from the St. Louis police.

Authorities reported that the unnamed individual endured the assault, suffering multiple bites on his arms and legs.
Officers on the scene successfully deterred the dogs by deploying pepper spray.

During the fundraiser established for Anthony, she is honored as “a woman of unshakable character,” recognized for her role as a school custodian and her kind-hearted spirit.
“She had a way of making everyone feel valued, seen, and loved. She was the one who made sure no one ever went without a warm meal, the one who checked in on you to make sure you were okay,” the family said in the GoFundMe.
“To see her life taken in such a violent way, in the place she should have felt safest, is something we cannot come to terms with.”
Authorities reported that the dogs were found in a home in the local area where they reside. According to police, the owner is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Keisha Anthony, the victim’s daughter, expressed her desire for the dog’s owner to face charges and for the dogs to be put down.
At the time this was reported, authorities in St. Louis informed that no charges had been filed against the owner. Authorities have not yet clarified their stance on the potential euthanization of the dogs.
