A family from Sunriver, facing allegations of child abuse, was taken into custody on Friday at a hotel along the Oregon coast, where they were evading law enforcement, according to officials.
Sarah Marie Session, 33, along with her parents, Gary and Paula Hardenburg, aged 65 and 60, are confronting a total of 28 charges linked to child abuse. Among these charges, Session faces a serious accusation of second-degree attempted murder, according to court documents.
A licensed teacher in Oregon has been indicted for allegedly striking a preteen child in her care with curtain rods and a doorstopper, as well as forcing the child to consume vomit. It is also claimed that she denied the child food and medical attention, as stated in the indictment.
In addition to the charge of second-degree attempted murder, she faces a range of serious allegations including first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, five counts of third-degree assault, eight counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, and two counts of coercion, according to court records.
A divorce petition submitted by Session in 2022 reveals that she is the mother of two children and also has a step-child.
On Tuesday, authorities announced that Session and her parents have been indicted after an investigation conducted by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
Paula Hardenburg, the mother of Session, is facing serious charges including second-degree assault, first and second-degree criminal mistreatment of her child, and tampering with physical evidence, according to court records. Gary Hardenburg, the father of Session, is also facing allegations related to evidence tampering, along with charges of both first and second-degree criminal mistreatment.
