Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Rosane Ferreira-De Oliveira on May 8 at Eureka Street. She is a Brazilian mother of three. Her daughter says that her mother was arrested because her partner honked at a fake car with ICE agents.
Augusta Clara Moura, Ferreira-De Oliveira’s 21-year-old daughter, gave new information about how ICE took her mother and her partner and scared her that they would also arrest her.
Through her lawyer Andrew George Lattarulo, Clara Moura said that the day before ICE took her mother, her partner Samarone Alves Ferreira-De Souza was taken by federal agents. He is also the father of her 3-month-old child.
Lattarulo also works for Ferreira-De Souza.
Clara Moura said that Ferreira-De Souza honked at a car that cut him off on his way to work this morning. The car turned out to be a fake ICE car, and the man was caught.
Clara Moura said, “He had done nothing wrong.”
ICE’s Online Detainee Locator System (ODLS) says that Ferreira-De Souza is being held at the Pine Prairie Correctional Facility in Pine Prairie, Louisiana right now.
When asked for comments about Ferreira-De Souza on Thursday, DHS and ICE did not reply right away.
Lattarulo said Ferreira-De Souza was taken on May 8. The next day, May 9, Clara Moura said ICE came to her house and told her to give back her partner’s car and sign immigration papers.
She said she left her house with her baby and her sister, who is 17, because she was going to follow the order.
Clara Moura said, “That’s when ICE pulled me over and told me I was being arrested.” “Because I had my baby with me, I called my mom to come get my son.”
When her mother got there, ICE agents tried to arrest her and were able to do so.
As per Clara Moura, ICE officials also tried to take her baby away, but they gave up after neighbors spoke out against it.
Lattarulo told MassLive on Thursday that ICE had threatened to arrest Clara Moura and her sister, who is 17. This story fits with an exclusive report from Rolling Stone Magazine that said Clara Moura and her sister were used as “bait” to get ICE to arrest their mother.
Clara Moura started a GoFundMe on Wednesday to talk about how ICE took her mother and partner and told her they would arrest her too.
Lattarulo said that he and his spokesman helped set up the Clara Moura GoFundMe.
Clara Moura says that the money raised through the GoFundMe will be used to pay for food, clothes, a place to live, court fees, bail, and other important costs. Per the GoFundMe, two gifts have been made as of May 15. One was for $20 and the other was for $50.
Clara Moura writes, “Now I live in fear.” “I’m staying with friends and can’t get back home or get any of my things or my baby’s things.” I can’t work, and it’s hard for me to stay alive.
