Fairfax County Man Arrested for Indecent Liberties by Custodian After Alleged Inappropriate Relationship With Minor

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A 62-year-old man from Lorton has been arrested following an investigation by the Fairfax County Police Department’s Child Abuse Squad, accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a minor during his time as a private tennis coach.

Investigation and Arrest

According to police, the case began on November 23, when officers at the West Springfield District Station received a sex offense report. The victim told detectives she was subjected to inappropriate conduct by the suspect, later identified as Tony Adams, when she was underage.

Detectives launched an investigation and determined that Adams, who worked as a private tennis coach, had unlawful contact with the victim during private lessons.

On November 24, detectives located Adams in Fairfax County and took him into custody. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with four counts of Indecent Liberties by Custodian and held without bond.

Background on the Suspect’s Coaching Roles

Investigators revealed that Adams previously held multiple coaching positions in Fairfax County Public Schools:

  • Assistant tennis coach at West Springfield High School from 2015 to 2016
  • Tennis coach at Lake Braddock Secondary School in 2018
  • Supported the West Springfield tennis program again in 2022, though not in an official coaching role

Authorities are reviewing his past coaching activities to determine whether additional victims may be involved.
