Las Vegas — According to records, a gunman shot an innocent bystander while chasing a stolen car along a Las Vegas freeway.
Two young males, King Johnson-Jackson and Jonathan Santoyo, 18, face charges, including attempted murder, in connection with the May 3 occurrences, according to records.
That day, someone noticed what she thought was a family member’s stolen car in a northwest valley parking lot. She and her boyfriend then followed the vehicle, which was driven by a masked driver and carried a masked passenger.
Someone in the automobile then began firing at the woman and her boyfriend, hitting numerous homes and “an innocent bystander” who happened to be driving in the neighborhood when a bullet flew through his windshield, according to police. The injured driver, who had a gunshot wound in his arm, was transporting his wife, daughter, and a daughter’s friend at the time.
Police said the gunfire began around Durango Drive and Grand Montecito Parkway and concluded on the 215 Beltway near North Jones Boulevard.
Detectives later discovered the stolen vehicle burnt along Blue Diamond Road and Jones Boulevard in the south valley.
Investigators suspect the handgun used in the shootings was stolen in April.
According to records, police apprehended Santoyo on May 23. Johnson-Jackson made her first appearance in court on May 5.
Johnson-Jackson was not in custody on Wednesday because prosecutors wanted extra time to conduct their investigation, according to records. Santoyo remained in detention Wednesday after a court rejected his bail due to a suspended sentence in a different case. Santoyo is currently involved in numerous more grand larceny cases in the justice court system.
