Driver Arrested After 140+ MPH Police Chase Ends in San Gabriel Neighborhood

SAN GABRIEL, Calif. — A high-speed police pursuit that reached speeds of over 140 miles per hour came to a dramatic end Sunday night in a residential area of San Gabriel, after the driver led officers on a dangerous chase through multiple cities before attempting to flee on foot.

Chase Begins in Baldwin Park

According to authorities, the pursuit began shortly after 6 p.m. when officers spotted a vehicle speeding at more than 100 mph in the Baldwin Park area. The driver reportedly ignored police commands to pull over and continued at extreme speeds, blowing through red and yellow lights while weaving dangerously through traffic.

At one point, AIR7 HD footage captured the car traveling over 143 mph, creating serious risks for both other motorists and pedestrians along the route.

The Chase Through the Freeway

The pursuit stretched across several freeways and city streets as the suspect continued to evade law enforcement. After roughly 30 minutes, the driver abruptly turned off the vehicle’s headlights and crossed multiple lanes before exiting the 10 Freeway at New Avenue in San Gabriel.

Officers briefly lost sight of the suspect after the sudden maneuver. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood off Ramona Boulevard.

Arrest and Aftermath

Police units quickly surrounded the area, and California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers launched a ground and air search. After several minutes, the suspect was located and taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or what charges will be filed, but officials confirmed that the driver faces multiple felony counts related to reckless driving, evading arrest, and endangering public safety.

Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement agencies are continuing to review dashcam and helicopter footage as part of the ongoing investigation. No injuries were reported during the chase, though officers described the event as “extremely dangerous” due to the high speeds and sudden maneuvers.
