Dozen Kids Hospitalized After Consuming THC Gummies at New York School; Parents Outraged after Incident

Honk News (New York City, NY) Twelve children fell ill after consuming marijuana-infused gummies at a middle school in New York.

On Monday morning at William Floyd Middle School in Moriches, students aged 12 to 13 began to experience vomiting after consuming the edibles.

A representative from the Long Island school district reported that a student distributed the gummies to 11 fellow classmates.

Students experiencing dizziness, racing heart rates, and vomiting led the school nurse to request EMT assistance.

As news circulated in the community, parents reported discovering the situation regarding the ill children through a notification on the school’s website, phone calls, or directly from their kids.

A total of 11 students were admitted to the hospital for monitoring or precautionary treatment. A report on their status is anticipated to be shared on Tuesday. A parent remained with the 12th student.

Suffolk County Police announced that there will be no criminal charges, and the school will manage any disciplinary actions.

Edibles may be packaged in jars and bundles resembling candy. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, there has been an increase in the number of children visiting emergency rooms due to exposure to marijuana since the legalization of edibles.

The exact amount of THC, the compound responsible for marijuana’s psychoactive effects, in the gummies consumed by the students remains uncertain. The origins and methods by which the student obtained them remain ambiguous.

“You don’t even know what’s in it,” said Andrew Floyd, another parent. “It’s crazy. I don’t think they should be selling the stuff that looks like candy. You can’t even tell the difference between the candy and the THC products.”
