An individual who is a deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office was taken into custody on suspicion of sexually assaulting a volunteer with the department over the weekend.
According to a statement released by the RSO, the claims were brought to the attention of the investigators on Friday, when a female volunteer relayed the information about the attack to a deputy. The date of the incident was previously unknown.
“Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the deputy immediately reported the incident to his supervisor,” according to the official statement.
According to the statement, they were able to locate sufficient evidence in a short amount of time to establish that Deputy Alexander Vanny, who is 33 years old, had intentionally committed sexual assault against the adult victim.
It was on Saturday that he was taken into custody and booked for various felony sexual assault-related offenses, according to CBS News.
“Vanny was hired by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in May 2016 and was most recently assigned to the Hemet Sheriff’s Station,” according to the official announcement. “He has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending this investigation.”
