Former NBA player Delonte West has been arrested once again, this time after a police chase that required the administration of Narcan due to a suspected opioid overdose.
A man in his forties evaded law enforcement in Fairfax County, Virginia, while they were attempting to serve him a warrant for violating the conditions of his release. TMZ Sports reported that the individual was later discovered by the police in an unresponsive state.
Officers initially administered Narcan, but it did not produce the desired outcome, according to Fairfax County police. However, the second time it was administered after West was transported to a local hospital, it had the desired effect.
West, who was recently discharged from the hospital and faced charges of resisting arrest, appears worn-out with his eyes barely open in his booking photo, which left many NBA fans expressing their sadness.
An NBA guard with a history of playing for the Celtics, Sonics, Cavaliers, and Mavericks is currently in custody on a $2,000 bond. According to TMZ Sports, he is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
Since his last NBA appearance in 2012, West has faced numerous challenges, including a diagnosis of bipolar disorder in 2008 and struggles with substance abuse.
In October 2022, he found himself in a bit of trouble, being arrested not once, but twice within a span of two weeks. The first arrest was for trespassing and fleeing from the police, while the second was for public intoxication.
In a surprising turn of events, West was seen panhandling on the side of a highway in Alexandria, Va. four months ago. Shortly after, he was spotted loitering in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven.
In September 2020, Mark Cuban, the majority owner of the Mavericks at the time, assisted West in entering rehab. However, in October 2021, West was arrested for reportedly causing a disturbance at a Boynton Beach, Fla., police headquarters by banging on the lobby doors while holding an open can of beer and an open bottle of vodka.
