Deadly Wrong-Way Crash Shuts Down Freeway in Downtown LA on Easter Sunday

The 10 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles was closed early on Easter Sunday due to a wrong-way crash that killed at least one person.

According to preliminary information from the California Highway Patrol, police were dispatched to the westbound span of the 10 at Central Avenue for a wrong-way collision at 5:25 a.m.

The CHP verified that three automobiles were involved. One person was confirmed dead on the scene, while several others were evacuated to surrounding hospitals in unclear condition.

It was unclear whether impairment played a part in the deadly incident.

Traffic on the interstate came to a complete halt as crews began working to clear the scene, according to video captured by KTLA photojournalist John Greenwood. A CHP officer was spotted instructing cars to turn back.

Shortly before 8:30 a.m., the CHP said that two lanes of the westbound span of the 10 east of Central were open, while three lanes remained closed.

All lanes had reopened at 9 a.m.
