On Thursday, a social studies teacher at Douglas County High School was charged with sexual assault because of an incident that occurred with a student.
James “Jim” Christopher Thomure, 55, was charged with one count of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust during a Thursday morning hearing — a class four felony — according to court records.
According to Colorado law, Thomure faces a sentence of two years to life in prison and ten years to life without the possibility of parole on sex offender intensive supervision probation.
A resident of Centennial, the individual, who is now 55 years old, started working for the Douglas County School District in the year 1999. Superintendent Thomure is currently on administrative leave “pending investigation,” according to officials from the district.
An arrest affidavit from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office states that Thomure assaulted a student while the two were alone in a classroom together. The incident occurred while the student was learning.
According to officials from the sheriff’s office, Thomure made two attempts to kiss the student and also placed his hands inside the student’s pants. The report was edited to remove the student’s age as well as their age and gender.

According to the affidavit, Thomure stated that the student was “driving [him] crazy” when the student placed a hand on his chest in an attempt to keep him away. During the summer, Thomure told the student that he wanted to do things to them, that they could go to the park, and that “casual sex can be fun.” He also said that he wanted to do things to them.
School surveillance video confirmed Thomure was alone in the classroom with the student for more than an hour.
