DELMARVA — The weekend forecast brings another round of cold, sunny weather before Sunday showers and the potential for a strong coastal system early next week, according to the latest reports from regional meteorologists.
Cold, Clear Start to the Weekend
Friday’s chill will linger into Saturday morning, with starry skies overnight and lows dipping into the 20s to low 30s. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, dropping into the upper teens in some inland areas.
By late morning, sunny skies and light winds will take over, offering a crisp but pleasant start to the weekend.
“High pressure from the Plains will dominate the East Coast on Saturday, keeping conditions calm and dry,” forecasters said.
Despite the sunshine, temperatures will stay below normal, with afternoon highs only reaching the low to mid-40s. Winds will ease compared to Friday, making the cold more tolerable.
Saturday night, increasing clouds will move in, helping to hold overnight lows in the mid-20s to around 30°F.
Sunday Brings Light Rain and a Brief Warm-Up
A developing low-pressure system tracking out of the Midwest will spread light rain across the Delmarva Peninsula on Sunday. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain modest — between 0.10 and 0.25 inches — as the region sits on the warmer side of the system.
Temperatures will rebound into the low to mid-50s, but southwest winds between 10 and 20 mph — with gusts near 30 mph — could make the day breezy.
The rain will taper off late Sunday evening as a cold front sweeps offshore. Overnight lows will fall back to around freezing by early Monday.
Early Week: Breezy, Cold, and Watching the Coast
Monday brings another push of cold, dry air, keeping highs in the mid-40s under mostly sunny skies. Winds will remain brisk, and nighttime lows will dip again near 30°F.
Attention then shifts to Tuesday, when forecast models show a developing coastal low that could bring widespread precipitation to the region.
Forecasters emphasize that uncertainty remains about the storm’s exact track and strength, but its impacts could vary significantly:
- Coastal areas: Mainly rain expected.
- Inland/northwestern Delmarva: Possible brief mix of rain and snow at onset, especially north of the I-95 corridor.
“If the storm tracks slightly farther west, warmer air could limit any snow,” meteorologists explained. “But if it stays offshore, parts of inland Delmarva could briefly see a wintry mix before changing to rain.”
The system is projected to exit Tuesday night, followed by dry, cold weather on Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure rebuilds across the East Coast.
