Chicago Police Search for Suspect in CTA Blue Line Platform Stabbing

CHICAGO, Ill. – Police are searching for a suspect involved in a stabbing that took place late Saturday night on the CTA Blue Line platform at the UIC-Halsted station on Chicago’s Near West Side. The attack left a woman injured and has prompted a citywide appeal for public assistance in identifying the assailant.

Details of the Incident

According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday at the UIC-Halsted Blue Line station, located at 430 South Halsted Street.

Investigators said the female victim, whose age has not been released, was sitting on a bench on the platform when the suspect approached her, pulled a knife from his backpack, and stabbed her in the chest without warning.

Emergency crews responded quickly, and the victim was transported to a local hospital. Police said she was reported to be in good condition as of Sunday morning.

Suspect Description Released

Authorities released a photo of the suspect, who remains at large. The man is described as:

  • Male of unknown age
  • Approximately 6 feet tall
  • Weighing 160–180 pounds
  • Last seen wearing a pink beanie, gray hooded jacket, orange sweater, light blue jeans, and white shoes
  • Carrying a gray book bag

After the stabbing, the suspect was seen walking northbound on South Morgan Street, according to police.

“We are asking anyone who may recognize this individual or have information about his whereabouts to contact us immediately,” a CPD spokesperson said.

Public Safety and Investigation

The incident has raised renewed concerns about safety on Chicago’s public transit system, especially after several high-profile crimes reported on CTA trains and platforms this year. Police have increased patrols at key downtown and Near West Side transit locations in response.

Authorities are reviewing security footage from the CTA and nearby businesses to trace the suspect’s movements before and after the attack. Detectives with CPD’s Area Three Bureau of Detectives are leading the investigation.

How to Help

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is urged to call CPD detectives at 312-744-8261 or submit anonymous tips through CPD’s online portal or Crime Stoppers.

Residents are also encouraged to remain alert while using public transit, report suspicious behavior to CTA staff, and use well-lit areas of stations when traveling late at night.

Police say the victim is expected to recover, but the investigation remains ongoing.
