According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, no one was wounded in the chase, and the vehicle was classified as “minimal” damage.
A 12-year-old boy led police on a brief chase after driving his grandfather’s stolen automobile over 160 miles into the Washington mountains.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office apprehended and detained the unidentified youngster on Wednesday, Nov. 27, after the Issaquah Police Department informed deputies that he had stolen his grandfather’s automobile, according to a sheriff’s office statement posted on Facebook.
After learning that the youngster had a “connection to Moses Lake” and would travel to Grant County, “The Sheriff’s Motor Traffic Unit went looking for the car and found it around 10:20 a.m. parked at the curb of the 900 block of Lowry Street in the Larson Community,” the sheriff’s office stated.
The 12-year-old driver “then led deputies on a short pursuit that was safely ended near Randolph Road and State Route 17 when a deputy applied a PIT maneuver on the stolen car,” according to the statement.
According to The Seattle Times, the pre-teen drove the automobile for 161 miles before being halted by authorities. According to the sheriff’s office, no one was wounded during the chase, and the damage to the vehicle was described as “minimal.”
The youngster was taken into police custody and brought to the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center, where he was charged with “suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and felony eluding,” according to authorities.
