A woman in Massachusetts was fatally attacked by her dog on Monday. Following the passing of Jeriline Brady-McGinnis from Boston, her three children issued a statement.
“Our mother was a loving and caring mother,” the statement said. “The heart and soul of our family is gone.”
Brady-McGinnis prepared dinner for her dogs each evening.
On Monday, Nov. 18, at approximately 4:30 p.m., one of her dogs turned on her and her husband. The dog was not on the property when two police officers showed up. Officers quickly provided first aid to Brady-McGinnis and her husband.
“While they were there, the dog returned and attacked the two officers,” Deputy Superintendent Paul McLaughlin told reporters at a press conference on Monday, adding that the dog was subsequently shot dead.
“Given what he had done to the two victims,” McLaughlin said, “The officers decided to discharge and to put the dog down.”
The pair was quickly taken to the hospital. Brady-McGinnis suffered severe injuries and passed away. McLaughlin reported that her husband sustained “very serious” injuries.
Boston EMS took two officers to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries that are not life-threatening.
Authorities have not verified the dog’s breed, but CBS has reported that it was a pit bull named Buddha.
“She’s very close to her animals, almost like children, I think. She took good care of them. She walked them every day,” her friend Jean McGuire, 93, told CBS. “She’s a wonderful person, very generous, very loving person, loved animals.”
