Barbie has had numerous animated films, but never a live-action portrayal of the pink car and stylish outfits. Even though the idea of turning the Mattel classic into a live-action film had been discussed for over a decade, it took Greta Gerwig to sign her name to the project and make it fly off the page.
Barbie may be one of the most anticipated productions to come out this summer, with none other than Margot Robbie playing the beloved doll, and we have you covered on all the details that we know so far about this upcoming release.
When Will Barbie Be Released?
The live-action film will be released in theaters on July 21, 2023, according to a Warner Bros. announcement at CinemaCon, along with a sneak peek of Robbie in character. Barbie will initially be available only in movie theaters.
However, once the theatrical window has expired, the film will be available exclusively on Warner Bros.’ newly rebranded streaming service Max, following in the footsteps of other recent Warner Bros. releases such as Shazam! The Gods’ Fury and Magic Mike’s Last Dance
What Do We Expect From the Plot of Barbie?
One of the reasons this live-action is a constant topic of discussion is that there was virtually no concrete information about its story for the longest time. According to a few actors involved in the project, all we knew was that it would be an unprecedented take on the Barbie doll that we all know and love.
While the Barbie brand may appear to be limiting in terms of creating a story, Margot Robbie and her team were clearly up for the challenge, as the actress stated:
“The IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted’… Now, can we truly honor the IP and the fan base and also surprise people? Because if we can do all that and provoke a thoughtful conversation, then we’re really firing on all cylinders.”
While doing press for the Christmas musical comedy, Will Ferrell, who is part of the large and impressive ensemble of Barbie, revealed some interesting details about the film. spirited remark:
It is, in my humble opinion, the ultimate example of high art and low art. It’s a loving homage to the brand and, at the same time, couldn’t be more satirical—just an amazing comment on male patriarchy and women in society and why Barbie’s criticized and yet why every little girl still wants to play with Barbie.
We recently received more concrete details about Barbie’s plot thanks to the most recent trailer. Robbie revealed that Barbie decided to leave Barbie Land because she was experiencing an existential crisis as a result of her own mortality and her feet falling flat.
Who Stars in the Barbie Movie?
In the new movie, Margot Robbie plays Barbie and Ryan Gosling plays Ken.
It would be easier to say who isn’t in the Barbie movie, just like it was easier to say who wasn’t in Oppenheimer. Even though I know a few of the characters and all the different versions of Barbie and Ken, I don’t know much about many of the other roles.
But, as we said, we know that many of the people in the ensemble, including Dua Lipa, play different versions of Barbie and Ken. This could turn out to be very silly and funny.
In fact, Michael Cera is one of the few actors who does not play Barbie or Ken. Allan is Ken’s friend.
