A couple has been arrested by authorities in Jacksonville in connection to the tragic death of a 2-year-old child on Sunday, July 7.
Authorities have reported that a tragic incident occurred involving a 2-year-old who was left unattended in a vehicle along with four other children. Unfortunately, the child did not survive.
Police reported that the car was left outside Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) while a 3-year-old was undergoing critical medical care. Following the incident, the child’s parents, Justin and Deja Rollins, were taken into custody.
During the investigation, authorities were alerted by ACH security about the presence of four additional children, aged 2, 4, 7, and 10, who were left unattended in a hot vehicle.
Reports indicate that the couple was uncooperative when questioned about the whereabouts of the other children.
The children were discovered in a vehicle located in the parking lot of Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
The ACH security team swiftly intervened, ensuring the children’s safety by promptly removing them from the vehicle. They were then taken inside the hospital to receive the necessary treatment, as they showed signs of heat exhaustion. The child passed away the following day.
In addition, authorities discovered a severely neglected dog at the couple’s residence, which was subsequently taken into custody by Jacksonville Animal Services as reported by THV11 News.
As part of an ongoing investigation, detectives have acquired an affidavit for Capital Murder against Justin and Deja Rollins. Both individuals have been apprehended and are now confronting numerous charges.
