Animal Lover Fatally Mauled by Dogs in Georgia; Owner Faces Manslaughter Charge

A young woman from Georgia tragically lost her life in a brutal dog attack, leading to the owner’s charge of involuntary manslaughter.

On Wednesday, December 18, around 10:30 a.m., Samara Rogers was walking on Ira Road in Augusta when she was attacked by two dogs, according to a statement from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at the 3500 block of Ira Road after receiving a report of a dog attack and discovered Rogers, who had suffered injuries from the dogs.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that she passed away at the scene.

Police have arrested a 55-year-old man, Charles Blackwell, and charged him with involuntary manslaughter, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

Local outlet WRDW reports that arrest warrants claim Blackwell, the primary owner of the dogs, did “cause the death of another human without any intention to do so.”

Rogers was reportedly bitten in the face and torso by the dogs, according to the allegations in the warrants. According to the Coroner’s Office, WJBF reports, she was declared dead at the scene at 11:05 a.m.

While the investigation unfolds, Rogers’ family and friends are grieving and seeking understanding of the situation.

Tameka Harris, Rogers’ mother, expressed her disbelief to WRDW upon discovering what had occurred to her daughter.

“I didn’t know where she was. Why like that? It’s such a painful death,” said her mom. “And I could just hear her saying, ‘Help me.’ In my mind, I could just hear her saying, ‘Help me.’”
